DOMESTIC ADOPTION PROGRAMS

Our "traditional adoption programs" make it possible for birth parents, who come to ABC through the agency's marketing and outreach efforts, to have the opportunity of selecting the adoptive family with whom their child will be placed.
ABC For Adoption's work with people is based on trust.  The expectation is that an individual's word is his or her bond.  ABC supports birth parents and potential adoptive parents in taking the time they need to make good decisions for themselves.  Even though a birth parent may receive emotional and financial support, this support is given freely and voluntarily, without obligation.
All potential adoptive parents working with ABC submit a family photo album, a "Life Book" that is entered into the potential adoptive parent roster.  These albums do not include identifying information but do include photographs of the potential adoptive parents, their home environment, their family and friends, there is also included a "Dear Birth Parent" letter.  These albums are shown to birth parents who request to take an active role in choosing a family for their child.  This is not something that is required of birth parents, but it is an option that is always made available to them.  Most birth parents choose to take a very active part in identifying the family with whom their child is placed.
Wherever possible, ABC seeks to verify significant information, whether is has to do with health issues, obtaining background information or legal matters.  This is done with the adherence of strict confidentiality to any and all parties involved.
Meeting or direct contact between birth parents and potential adoptive parents in not required.  However, such contact often occurs as part of the adoption process.  For the majority of times this extraordinarily positive contact and communication.  ABC has a practice and knowledge derived from such meetings to facilitate a communication between birth parents and potential adoptive parents which is highly informative and stress relieving.  ABC feels that birth parents do not need to share identifying information with one another.  The majority of ABC placements so not include nay kind of exchange of identifying information.  However, potential adoptive parents seeking to adopt through ABC should be willing to speak with or meet with birth parents on a first name basis.  When such contact occurs, ABC provides support to both parties and will act as a facilitator of the process.
In the past few years there has been an increased interest on the part of birth parents and adoptive parents to stay in contact with each other, either through photos, video tapes and letters, or in person, following an adoptive placement.  Potential adoptive and birth parents considering the widest range of post placement contact will find and atmosphere at ABC that accepts, promotes, supports these choices, while respecting individual parameters.  In addition to the support provided by staff, program applicants can benefit from interaction with successful adoptive parents who went through our program.
